What's a Jeep Jamboree?
It's a family-oriented four-wheel drive outing that's probably unlike anything you've ever experienced. Jamborees are designed for all levels of expertise-from raw beginners to seasoned veterans-so, it's fun for everyone. Jamborees are also designed for stock Jeep vehicles just like yours. You won't need a highly modified vehicle.
For two full days (Friday and Saturday), you and your family will venture to places you would never see from the highway. You'll follow unpaved trails and learn how to properly use your Jeep vehicle in challenging off-highway situations. And, perhaps best of all, you'll make lots of new friends who will help you along the way.
Whom can I bring?
Whomever you want - as long as they each have a required seat belt. Bringing pets, however, is strongly discouraged. If your pet must attend, be- sure to contact the Jeep Jamboree office for specific requirements.
Where do I sleep?
Although lodging is often not covered in your fee, you will be sent a registration packet that includes a list of motels and campgrounds in the area of the Jamboree you select. You will also find some motel, camping, and RV accommodations listed in this guide. Please remember that rates may be subject to tax and may change without notice. Be sure to mention that you are attending a Jamboree when you make your reservation.
What will it cost?
Individual trip fees vary. Please see information posted on this site for 2004 for registration fees. No charge for children under three years of age. VISA, Master, personal checks, and money orders are welcome. All fees must be paid in advance.
What does the fee cover?
Included in your fee are experienced guides for the entire trip; all necessary permits; three meals on Friday, three on Saturday, and a continental breakfast on Sunday (NOTE: Meals vary. Unfortunately, no accommodation can be made for special diets.); a Jeep Jamboree T-shirt; and access to some of the finest trails in New Zealand, several of which are only available through this program. Each Jamboree also features a giveaway where you'll have a chance to win some great prizes. (Sorry, no partial trips offered and no spectators allowed. All participants must be officially registered.)
Will I be the only rookie?
No. There will be both first-timers and veterans who might be on their fifth or even tenth Jamboree. (About 33 percent are first-timers.)
Can I bring any Jeep vehicle?
Of course! All Jeep vehicles are tested on demanding 4x4 trails before earning the Jeep name!
We do require that your four-wheel drive Jeep vehicle be in good condition, with good tires and brakes and seat belts. Jeep Jamboree NZ reserves the right to refuse participation to any applicant whose Jeep vehicle exceeds size restrictions.
Could my vehicle be damaged?
Every effort is made by Jeep Jamboree to make the trails as safe as possible. Participants are advised to closely follow the instructions given by trail guides, spotters, and Jeep Jamboree NZ. However, there is the possibility of damage to your vehicle when traveling over rough terrain. Any damage is the owner's responsibility. Remember, trips with higher numerical difficulty ratings are more likely to involve terrain which may contribute to vehicular damage. Participants will be required to sign a waiver form.
Can other vehicle owners participate?
Only if he rides in your Jeep vehicle. Jeep Jamborees are strictly for Jeep vehicles. There are no exceptions.
What vehicle equipment do I need?
The following equipment is MANDATORY for Jamboree vehicles:
Front and rear tow hooks should be properly mounted to the frame with grade-eight bolts. Drawbars or receiver hitches are acceptable as an alternative to rear tow hooks. If you do not have tow hooks, you may be turned away at registration without a refund.
All open-topped vehicles, including older models (CJs, Scramblers, and Willys), must have mandatory roll bars.
A full-size spare tire. In case of puncture, a space-saver spare (donut) won't do.
STRONGLY RECOMMENDED
Skid plates covering the oil pan, gas tank, and transfer case. Mandatory for the Rubicon Trail.
Rock rails for Jeep Liberty, Cherokee, and Grand Cherokee vehicles registered for more aggressive, higher-rated trails. Rock rails are iron moldings designed to protect your Jeep vehicle's rocker panels from rocks, stumps, or logs and are strongly recommended for Jamborees with rocky terrain.
Heavy-duty, 20'-long nylon tow straps (20,000 pound minimum) with looped ends (no hooks). Tow straps with metal hooks will not be permitted.
No body lifts or suspension lifts over five inches, combined, are allowed. Running boards and snowplow frames are also not allowed.
No tires over 35".
Can I add passengers later?
Passengers may be added until three weeks prior to the trip date and must sign the waiver.
What about snow or heavy rain?
Absolutely! We are talking about rugged Jeep vehicles here.
What should I bring?
Here's what we recommend you pack for your Jamboree adventure:
