John and Helen Taylor, holders of various Guinness Book of Records long distance driving records in Australia and in Europe, took a standard Jeep Grand Cherokee 2.7 CRD turbo diesel from Melbourne to Adelaide, a total of 815km, without needing to stop for fuel at all!

Available until now with a petrol V6, the newcomer arrives at a time when interest in diesel-powered vehicles is strong a result of high fuel prices and improved technology, which has lifted the performance of diesel engines appreciably and made them very desirable.

Jeep has turned the clock back on prices to the mid-1990s in New Zealand, with reductions of up to $11,000 and it's also spicing up the model range with two new, high technology diesel variants.
